April is Occupational Therapy Month!

VVRMC’s Institute for Therapeutic Medicine would like to recognize all Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and OT Aides in Del Rio and surrounding areas. This month of April, we would like to bring awareness to services and highlight our OT Team at VVRMC. Occupational Therapy works to restore function by implementing physical and neurological programs aimed specifically at patients limitations. Therapists work directly with patients in an effort to promote and restore physical/functional mobility, increase independence for daily activities and overall improved quality of life.

First, Arturo Mendiola is an Occupational Therapist (OT) and has been part of our family since May of 2012. “Art” contributes a significant amount of 25+ years of experience as an OT and has been a valuable asset in growing our OT program. Arturo is certified in SAEBO Hand/Wrist Orthotics, used primarily for training patients suffering from upper extremity neurological injuries who do not exhibit sufficient wrist or finger extension to allow the hand to be functional.

Diana Wilburn is a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA), also with 25+ years of experience who recently joined VVRMC’s Rehab team in Oct of 2016. Diana formerly worked for VVRMC years ago and has brought back a more diverse evidence based knowledge for treating patients across all walks of life ranging from pediatrics to our geriatric patient population.

Perla Marin, is a certified Activities Coordinator, and currently assisting the department as a OT Aide/Rehab Technician. Perla has worked in nursing homes as an activities coordinator and has now found her true calling working with patients in the Department of Rehab.
